TACTICAL TRAINING & SUPPORT
The Department of Weapons and Tactical Training (DWTT) is a department within the Faculty of Operations Management and Skills Training at the National Police College of Jamaica (NPCJ) in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.
Originally established as the Firearms and Tactical Training Unit (FTTU) in October 2006, the department was renamed and rebranded on July 23, 2015. Before the formation of the Unit, firearms instructors were drawn from the instructional staff of the Jamaica Police Academy (now NPCJ). These members were referred to as specialist instructors and focused on drill, physical training and firearms training. However, in 2006, it was deemed necessary to have a unit with specialised personnel responsible for firearms and tactics, hence, the Unit was formed.
The mission of the DWTT is to transform sworn members of the JCF into law enforcement professionals who are equipped with the necessary tactical knowledge to protect the life, rights, property and dignity of all the people as bound under the Constitutional Charter of Rights 2011.
The Department of Weapons and Tactical Training (DWTT) offers firearms training, field craft, urban tactical training, training for operations support teams and less lethal training. The DWTT also provides divisions with operational support and guidance.
