CAPTURING IDENTITY
The Visual Identification Unit (VIU) has strengthened the forensic capabilities of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) since January 26, 2009.
As the organisation continues to modernise its operations, this specialised Unit has been critical in supporting criminal investigations and law enforcement operations.
In addition to conducting all identification parades within the JCF, visual evidentiary elements such as photographs and videos are properly captured, analysed, managed and stored by the VIU, a process that lays a compelling framework for transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
The VIU is dedicated to delivering high-quality, professional services that meet the evolving needs of the JCF and its stakeholders and consistently provides accurate and reliable support.
Core Function include:
- Video Identification Parades – Facilitating the secure and efficient identification of suspects through video-based lineups.
- Composite Sketches (EFIT) – Creating computer-generated facial composites based on witness descriptions to aid in suspect identification.
