TWENTY-YEAR-OLD MAN CHARGED WITH BREACHES OF THE FIREARMS ACT

Twenty-year-old Tain Smith of Rock Spring, Hanover is scheduled to answer to the charges of Possession of Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition following an operation in Tank Hill, Negril in Westmoreland on Friday, August 09.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar Police are that at about 5:00 p.m., a team of police officers were patrolling the area when they saw Smith amongst a group of men sitting on a verandah. However, upon seeing the police, all men ran off in different directions. The police team gave chase and caught Smith. During a subsequent search of his person, a magazine containing five 9mm cartridges was found. A search of the house where Smith and the men were sitting was conducted and a knapsack containing a plastic bag with five 12-gauge cartridges was seized.

Smith was thereafter charged for the offences. Preparations for his court date are

underway.
