The St. James Police have charged a man with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of Firearm with Intent to Injure, Assault at Common Law, Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Common Assault following an incident in St. John’s Square, Retirement in St. James on Saturday, July 27.
Charged is 30-year-old Zania Burke, otherwise called ‘Fourteen’, a shopkeeper of the same community.
Reports from the lawmen are that about 12:30 a.m., a woman with whom Burke had an ongoing dispute was standing in the roadway when Burke allegedly attacked her. According to reports, Burke pulled a handgun, pointed it at the woman and used it to hit her several times. The woman fled and later made a report to the police.
On Saturday, August 3, Burke turned himself into the police with his attorney. He was subsequently charged for the offences mentioned above.
A court date for him is being finalised.
