The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting that Hanover’s most wanted man, 24-year-old Towayne Gunning, otherwise known as ‘Tuffy,’ has turned himself in to the police. Gunning, a labourer from Rock Spring, Hanover, surrendered on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, accompanied by his attorney.
Gunning has been on the run since December 2023, following his involvement in a murder in Green Island. He was also involved in a shootout with police on April 2, 2024, during which he escaped. He is now facing charges for both incidents. The police have identified him as a person of interest in several other gun-related crimes that have occurred in Hanover, and investigations into these offences will be advanced.
In commenting on the arrest, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Wayne Joseph, who leads the Criminal Investigations Branch, commended the detectives in Area One for their “outstanding investigative work,” which he believes has contributed significantly to these developments. “More individuals are turning themselves in to law enforcement, driven by the strong cases being brought against them. This is a testament to the quality of investigative work on the ground, coupled with the effective communication from the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN), which has raised greater awareness about ongoing investigations.”
The JCF has made significant progress in recent weeks, with several wanted men being apprehended across Area One. Among them is Joseph McKenzie, also known as ‘Jayo,’ who was arrested in St. James on August 25, 2024, and charged with three murders, one shooting, and possession of a prohibited weapon. Similarly, Michael Williams, otherwise called ‘Dry Goods,’ was apprehended in Bogue, St. James, on September 14, 2024, and is also facing murder charges.
The police continue their efforts to combat violent crime in Area One, targeting individuals involved in serious offences. The JCF encourages anyone with information on criminal activities to come forward and assist in the fight against crime.
