Westmoreland Man Charged

The Westmoreland Police have charged 28-year-old Akeam Maragh otherwise called ‘Kemi’, labourer of Old Hope district, Little London in the parish following an incident in his community on Monday, September 9.

Maragh has been charged with Wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Reports are that about 1:45 a.m., a relative of Maragh was at a party when an altercation developed between him and another man.  The man reportedly left party and was on way home when he was pounced by Maragh and the other man who were travelling on a motorcycle. Maragh who was armed with a machete inflict wounds to the man and the pillion passenger armed with a handgun opened gunfire hitting the man to the upper body and escaped on the motorcycle.

The man managed to drove to the police station where he made a report. He was assisted by the police to the hospital. On Thursday, September 12 at about 4.40 p.m., the man saw Maragh who he pointed him out to the police. He was subsequently charged.

His court date is being finalized.
