Forty-year-old Stacy-Ann Long of Williamsfield, Drapers in Portland has been charged with Arson following an incident at her home on Friday, September 13.
Reports from the Port Antonio Police are that at about 2:45 a.m., a man who lives in the same house as Long but in a separate room was asleep when he felt a sudden heat that awoke him. He got up and saw smoke coming from a section of the roof. He then went outside to investigate and saw that Long’s room was ablaze. He then rushed back inside in a bid to retrieve his important documents, however, his efforts were futile as the house quickly became engulfed in flames.
He later reported the matter to the police who subsequently contacted the fire department for a cooling down operation. The estimated cost of the damage is over 500,000 Jamaican Dollars.
Upon further investigations, Long was subsequently charged.
Her court date is being finalized.
