The St. Ann Police have charged 24-year-old Romeish Golding of Buckfield, Ocho Rios, St. Ann with several offences following two separate incidents in the parish on Monday, April 01 and Tuesday, July 23.
Golding was charged with shopbreaking and larceny, shooting with intent, possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, attempt shop breaking with intent and malicious destruction of property.
In the first incident, about 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 30 a man locked his business place and left. On Monday, April 01 about 3:50 a.m., the police received information that the store was being broken into and responded.
On their arrival, there was evidence that the store was broken into by cutting a padlock to the front grille, breaking the glass to the front door, and stole a quantity of assorted jewellery; valued at approximately JMD 200,000. During the investigation, footage from the CCTV system showed Golding as the suspect.
In the second incident, on Monday, July 22 a man who was working at a plaza was doing routine checks when he was alerted by noise coming from the back of a business establishment. He went to enquire and as he approached the area, he saw two other gunmen walking away from a motor bus that was parked behind the building.
The gunmen opened fire at the man, however, he escaped unhurt. Upon further checks of the facility, it was revealed that the gunmen entered the premises by cutting a section of fence located at the back of the business establishment.
A report was made to the police and an investigation was carried out. Subsequently, Golding was arrested, and he was charged after he confessed to committing the crime.
His court date has not been finalised and his accomplice is currently being sought by the police.
