The Jamaica Constabulary Force has identified several tips and practices that can be utilized to curb the onset of accidents, scams and break-ins throughout this period, ultimately securing a safe and merry, Christmas.

At home:
1. Secure all entrances to your home. Install burglar-proofing systems and padlock all doors.
If possible, invest in a home security system.

2. Keep travel plans offline. If you are planning to travel during the holiday season, be sure
to keep your travel plans off your social media networks.

3. Don’t use lit candles as tree decorations. Electric candles are safer options, and with
advancements is energy technology, they are also efficient alternatives.

4. Don’t overload circuits, extension cords, or electrical sockets. Overloading circuits could
cause a fire.

Whilst shopping Be Aware of Your Surroundings:
1. Stay alert: In crowded areas like markets, malls and stores always stay aware of your
surroundings. Keep an eye on your personal belongings and beware of pickpockets.

2. Secure your bags: Use a cross body bag or a money belt that is harder to snatch. If you
carry a purse, keep it close to your body and zip it securely.

3. Check your environment: Before entering parking lots or garages, be sure they are well-lit
and populated with people. Avoid empty or poorly lit areas when walking to and from
your car.

like mobile banking and are safer than carrying large amounts of cash. This reduces the
