ASSAULT RIFLE SEIZED IN SEAFORTH, ST. THOMAS

A team of officers assigned to the St. Thomas Proactive Investigation Unit (PIU) seized an AK-47 assault rifle and 18 assorted rounds of ammunition during an operation in the communities of Black Smith and Stewart Field districts, both in Seaforth in the parish, on Wednesday, March 26.

Reports from the Morant Bay Police are that between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., lawmen were in the area when areas in the communities were searched. During a search in the Stewart Field, the AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing six 5.56 and twelve 12-gauge shotgun rounds of ammunition was seen hidden inside a knitted bag that was in a PVC pipe buried along the riverbed.

No one was arrested in relation to this seizure.
