TAXI OPERATORS CHARGED UNDER THE LARCENY ACT
Detectives assigned to the St. Andrew Central Policing Division have charged two men with Conspiracy and Larceny of Motor Vehicle following an incident on Burlington Avenue, Kingston 19, on Monday, August 10.
Charged are 31-year-old Jermaine Knight, a taxi operator of Long Lane, Kingston 8, and 22-year-old Shai Smythe, a taxi operator of Hill View Terrace, Kingston 19.
Reports from the Half Way Tree Police are that some time after 4:40 p.m., the complainant parked his Toyota Hiace bus in the area and went to an event. On his return at about 10:05p.m., he discovered the vehicle missing. The police was alerted, and a report was subsequently filed.
On Monday, August 11, Knight and Smythe were apprehended by lawmen along the Bog Walk main road in St. Catherine while they were effecting repairs to the stolen vehicle.
Both men were charged on Monday, August 18, following a question and answer session in the presence of their attorneys.
Court dates for both are being finalised.
