ST. ANDREW MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER

Detectives assigned to the St. Andrew South Policing Division charged 30-year-old Romando McLaud, a technician of Liston Road, Kingston, with the murder of 34-year-old Kemar Smith of Pretoria Road, Kingston 13, in his community on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

In addition to Murder, McLaud will also answer to the charges of  Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition.

Reports from the Hunts Bay Police are that at about 1:05 p.m., Smith was sitting on a motorcycle along the roadway when a Toyota motorcar drove up and stopped. McLaud and another man, both armed with firearms, alighted from the vehicle and opened gunfire at Smith, hitting him in the abdomen before escaping.

Smith was assisted to the hospital, where he named his attackers before succumbing to his injuries.

McLaud, who was arrested on previous charges, was charged relative to this incident whilst in custody following an interview.

His court date is being finalised.
