ELDERLY ST. CATHERINE FARMER FACES GANJA CHARGES

The St. Catherine South Police have charged 71-year-old Austin McCalla, otherwise called ‘Bigga Man’, a farmer of Bellas Gate, Old Harbour in St. Catherine, with Possession of Ganja and  Dealing in Ganja following an incident on Queens Avenue, Gregory Park, in the parish on Saturday, August 23.

Reports from the Portmore Police are that at about 2:30p.m., McCalla was observed by a police team on patrol at a stall making a purchase, with a black bag in his right hand. On seeing the police, McCalla threw the bag to the ground. The lawmen approached McCalla; he was accosted and searched, and the bag was retrieved. The bag was searched, and a large quantity of vegetable matter resembling ganja was found in the bag.

McCalla was brought to the station along with the bag he had in his possession. The contents of the bag weighed over three pounds. McCalla was subsequently charged.

His court date is being finalised.
