FORENSIC EVIDENCE USED TO CHARGE CLARENDON WANTED MAN WITH SEVERAL OFFENCES FOLLOWING 2019 ROBBERY
Thirty-two-year-old Panif Broomfield, otherwise called ‘Chang’, a construction worker of Effortville in May Pen, Clarendon, has been slapped with several charges after forensic evidence linked him to a robbery incident on Manchester Avenue in May Pen, Clarendon, on Thursday, February 21, 2019.
He is charged with Robbery with Aggravation, two counts of Shooting with Intent, Illegal Possession of Firearm and Illegal Possession of Ammunition.
Reports are that at about 9:10 p.m., Broomfield was reportedly among a group of robbers who pounced upon a taxi operator and forced him into the back of his Toyota Probox motor car. The robbers attempted to flee the area but were interrupted by an off-duty police officer. There was an exchange of gunfire, and during the exchange,, the taxi operator escaped by jumping from the vehicle.
The robbers also escaped. The Toyota Probox motor car was later found abandoned along Chapelton Road in the parish with bullet holes. Both the vehicle and the scene were processed, during which spent casings and blood samples were retrieved.
The police were later alerted that a man, Broomfield, was being treated for gunshot wounds at a hospital. Broomfield was interviewed; he claimed to be a victim of a shooting incident while he was walking along the road. He was treated and released.
Forensic evidence later linked him to the crime scene after a thorough investigation was conducted by forensic crime scene investigators and the local police.
He has been promulgated on the Clarendon Most Wanted List for the past six years. He was also featured on the JCF’s Wanted Wednesdays.
On Tuesday, September 30, Panif Broomfield turned himself in to the police in the presence of his attorney. On Thursday, October 2, he was interviewed and formally charged.
