MAN CHARGED AFTER ATTEMPTED BRIBERY OF A POLICE OFFICER IN ST. ANDREW SOUTH DIVISION
Twenty-eight-year-old Michael Jones of Haining Crescent, Kingston 5, has been charged with Breaches of the Anti-Corruption Act after attempting to bribe a police officer during a Roadblock Operation along Penwood Road in Kingston 11 on Friday, October 17.
Reports are that at about 11:40 a.m., a team of police officers were conducting a National Coordinated Roadblock operation when Jones, who was driving a Toyota Axio motor car, was seen not wearing a seat belt. He was signalled to stop, and during routine checks, Jones was unable to produce a driver’s licence. While officers were in the process of preparing traffic tickets, Jones reportedly went to his vehicle and returned with an envelope containing money, which he allegedly offered to the officer.
Jones was immediately taken into custody and later charged, following an interview.
The police are reminding members of the public that attempting to bribe a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is a serious criminal offence and will be met with the full force of the law.
