FOUR MEN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING THE POLICE
Four persons have been arrested and charged with Assaulting the Police, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Indecent Language following an incident at Ferdi Neita Park in Braeton, Portmore, St. Catherine on Sunday, January 25.
Charged are:
- Thirty-four-year-old Cory Burke, a footballer of King Street, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
- Thirty-eight-year-old Keronie Moffat, a customer service representative of Daphnel Avenue, Eltham Park, St. Catherine
- Thirty-two-year-old Cavel Christie, a construction worker of Salt Pond Road, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, and
- Forty-three-year-old Conroy Green, a contractor of Dixon Avenue, Maryland, 7 Spring, United States
Reports from the Portmore Police are that at about 4:30 p.m., the accused men were occupants in a white Toyota Noah motor vehicle that was blocking an entrance, causing a disturbance during a football match. Police responded and instructed the driver to move the vehicle, but he refused. The accused men exited the vehicle, behaved disorderly, and used indecent language toward the police.
When police attempted to arrest them, the accused men resisted and physically attacked two police officers. It was further reported that additional men joined in assaulting the officers. The lawmen, fearing for their safety, fired one round into the air, causing the attackers to disperse. Both officers sustained injuries.
Further police assistance was sought, and upon their arrival, the accused men were identified. They were subsequently taken into custody, where they were formally charged.
Their court date is being finalised.
