FNID CHARGE WESTMORELAND MEN WITH MULTIPLE BREACHES OF THE DANGEROUS DRUGS ACT

Detectives assigned to the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) have charged two Westmoreland men with multiple breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following an operation on Wednesday, March 04.

The accused have been identified as Donald Baugh, a farmer of New Works, and Lenroy Ferguson, a tiler of Water Works district, both Westmoreland addresses.

Both men have been charged with Possession of Cocaine and Ganja, Dealing in Cocaine and Ganja and Trafficking Cocaine and Ganja.

Reports are that at about 5:25 p.m., FNID personnel intercepted a Toyota motor car travelling along the Mandela Highway in St. Andrew, being driven by Ferguson, with Baugh as a passenger. A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 1.2 kilograms of cocaine and an unspecified quantity of loose ganja. The cocaine and ganja have an estimated combined street value of JMD$720,000.

Acting Director of FNID, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sheldon Coulson, said the police have heightened their vigilance at the borders and across the island to apprehend drug traffickers. “We are going after criminal networks who are profiting from the movement of illegal drugs. There is no safe haven for traffickers; we are monitoring our borders and intensifying our operations within our island to apprehend those involved in the illegal trade,” noted DSP Coulson.

Baugh and Ferguson are scheduled to appear before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Friday, March 13.
