The Jamaica Constabulary Force is advising the public of the safety protocols established for the National Carnival, scheduled to run from Saturday, April 11 to Sunday, April 12.

The weekend’s festivities will feature the J’ouvert on Saturday and the Road March on Sunday.

To facilitate the smooth and safe movement of the parades, the following directives will be strictly enforced:

 Traffic Management and Road Closures

Specific routes will be cordoned off to accommodate the parade movements. Motorists are urged to avoid designated parade routes and utilise alternate routes where possible.

  • Parking Restrictions: No vehicles will be allowed to park along the parade routes. Vehicles parked and left unattended will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Periphery Monitoring: Alternate routes on the periphery of the parade will be closely monitored by police. No obstructions, whether caused by vehicles or otherwise, will be tolerated.

Prohibited Activities

To maintain order and ensure the safety of all revellers and spectators, these activities are strictly prohibited :

·         Distribution of Free Items: The distribution of free items along the parade route is strictly prohibited. Such activities can lead to dangerous crowd surges or stampedes, which may result in serious injury or death.

Unauthorised Sound Systems: The establishment of sound systems along the parade routes is prohibited, as these may disrupt the orderly flow of the official event.

Vehicle Restrictions and Stunt Prohibitions

The JCF maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding unauthorised vehicles within the parade space.

  • Motorcycles, ATVs, and pedal cyclists will not be allowed to join the parade.
  • Performing stunts or any other dangerous acts that could endanger the public is strictly forbidden.
  • Police Enforcement: Any unauthorised vehicles (motorcycles, ATVs, or bicycles) seen within or around the parade will be seized by the police, and appropriate charges will be proferred against the operators.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force remains committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable Carnival experience for all. We urge motorists and members of the public to fully cooperate by adhering to these guidelines and following the directions of police officers on the ground.
