SERIAL ROBBER AND CRONY NABBED AND SLAPPED WITH MULTIPLE CHARGES

Robbery with Aggravation, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with Aggravation, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Possession of Criminal Property, Transferring Criminal Property, Being Part of a Criminal Organization and Facilitating the Commission of an Offence by a Criminal Organization are charges that have been laid against a St Catherine taxi operator following six robberies in different sections of St Ann between Tuesday, January 6 and Sunday, April 5.

Charged is 33-year-old Niecko Nelson of Fort Tottenham Drive, Bridgeport, St Catherine.

Reports from the St Ann’s Bay Police are that between the aforementioned period Nelson and his accomplices, armed with a firearm, orchestrated and robbed a truck driver as well as several business places in the parish. They stole a motor truck valued at $3,6,000,000 JMD, several cell phones, roulette boxes, assorted liquors, several cell phones and other electronic devices. They also made off with over $200,000 JMD and other foreign currencies.

Several reports were made to the police and after intensive investigations Nelson and several men were intercepted in two motor vehicles during an intelligence led operation on Monday, April 06. Nelson was charged after he confessed to committing the robberies.

Twenty-four-year-old construction worker Rodean Brown of Eltham Vista, Spanish Town, St Catherine, who was taken into custody with Nelson, was also slapped with same charges after he confessed that he had taken part in one of the robberies.

A court date is being finalised for the duo.
