March 6, 2021 – Swift action of the St. Catherine South Police led to the capture of a 16-year-old boy, who is suspected to be involved in the murder of 43-year-old Rohan Martin otherwise called ‘Roger’, a promoter, of Old Braeton, Portmore in St. Catherine who was shot and killed by gunmen at McPherson Drive in Old Braeton on Friday, March 5.
Reports from the Portmore Police are that about 2:30 p.m. Martin was at a funeral service at a church when a Police team observed breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act and dispersed the crowd. While Martin was entering his car, another vehicle drove up with a group of men aboard, who opened gunfire hitting him.
The Police team immediately intervened and went in pursuit of the vehicle with the gunmen. They were assisted by another second Police unit. The getaway car eventually crashed and two men exited the vehicle firing at the Police, however, they managed to escape. A further check was done of the getaway car, where the teen was found in the driver’s seat with a firearm and one round.
Hours of searching the area for the other two men who escaped led to the recovery of a second firearm.
He is now in custody as the investigations continue.
