BARNETT STREET ESCAPEE RE-CAPTURED AND CHARGED
An additional charge has been laid against 43-year-old Maurice Belnavis of Greens, Paradise Norwood, St James, who had escaped from the Barnett Street Police lock-up in St James with four other men on Saturday, December 14, 2024, and was recaptured in St Ann on Thursday, May 29.
Reports from the Montego Bay Police are that at about 10:00 a.m. on the aforementioned day, Belnavis was arrested by lawmen in Ocho Rios, St Ann, after he was spotted in a section of the community. He was transferred to St James, where he was charged with Escaping Custody on Saturday, May 31, after a warrant on information was executed on him.
Three of his accomplices were fatally shot during armed confrontations with the police in St James and Trelawny between December 2024 and April 2025. The fourth man was recaptured in Spot Valley, St James, a day after they had escaped.
His court date is being finalised.
