BIKE TAXI OPERATOR CHARGED FOLLOWING SEIZURE OF IMITATION FIREARM

Detectives assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division have charged 19-year-old bike taxi operator Twayne McPherson with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Assault at Common Law and Using a Firearm to Commit a Schedule Offence in relation to an incident in New Market Oval, Savanna-la-Mar, in the parish on Saturday, August 16.

Reports from the Savann-la-Mar Police are that at about 12:30 p.m., an argument developed between McPherson and another man. During the altercation, McPherson pointed a firearm at the man and threatened to kill him. The man ran to escape injury.

A report was made to the police, and an operation was carried out at McPherson’s house, during which a search was conducted and a Glock Austria imitation firearm was found in a drawer of a dresser that was in his room.

The firearm was seized, and he was taken into custody, where he was subsequently charged.

His court date is being finalised.
