Clarendon Man Charged with Breaches of the Firearm Act

Twenty-four-year-old Towaughny Douglas of Ritches District, Clarendon, was charged with Shooting with Intent, Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition and Damaging Fixtures with Intent to Steal following an incident in

Nine Miles District in the parish on Monday, September 23.

Reports indicate that at about 3:00 a.m., the owner of a bar received a security notification from the camera system at her bar and went to investigate with her spouse. When they arrived, they observed three men cutting a side grille to the bar. Two of the men, who were armed, opened gunfire at them. Her spouse, who is a licensed firearm holder returned gunfire and went to report the matter to the police.

On the arrival of the police, a Toyota Corolla motor car was seen parked across from the bar with damage caused by gunshots to its windscreen. The bar grille was cut and left open.

Douglas, who received injuries during the exchange of gunfire, later turned up at the police station and was assisted to the hospital by police. He was treated, released and placed into police custody.

On Monday, September 30, a video identification parade was conducted and Towaughny Douglas was positively identified as one of the men who shot at the couple. Based on investigations carried out he was formally charged.

His court date is being arranged.
