Driving Transformation: Police Fleet Boosted with New Additions
As Commissioner of Police, Dr. Kevin Blake continues to lead the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on its journey of transformation. The Force’s bold declaration of its commitment to quality continues to be driven home with the addition of 274 vehicles to its fleet on Wednesday, February 19.
The new vehicles, inclusive of 90 motorcycles, were handed over to the force in a ceremony at the offices of the Commissioner of Police.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dennis Brooks, the ceremony’s chairman, emphasised the importance of modernizing the force’s transportation resources. He told the small gathering that for the JCF, vehicles are critical tools that enable police officers to serve the Jamaican people effectively.
Accepting the donation on behalf of the Force, Dr. Blake expressed his appreciation of the government’s continued investment in the JCF. He noted that the addition of the vehicles aligns with broader modernization efforts, which centre on ensuring every police officer is equipped with the necessary resources to effectively do their job.
“This is not just a ribbon-cutting ceremony and shaking of hands; it is indeed a part of a broader transformation that is underway,” said Dr. Blake.
“And on behalf of all members, I pledge to the people of Jamaica the JCF’s continued relentless and unapologetic effort in pushing back against criminals and their supporters so we can have safer communities and a safer country for generations to come,” he said.
The vehicles were handed over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang. He highlighted the 1.7 billion dollar price tag of the investment and said it was a demonstration of the government’s continued support for the JCF.
The full list of vehicles handed over includes 121 pickup trucks, 90 motorcycles, 55 SUVs, and eight buses.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Strategic Operations, Mr. Warren Clarke; Deputy Commissioner of Police Karina Powell-Hood, who heads the Force Development and Logistics Portfolio and Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, Mr. Gary McKenzie. Force Chaplain Dr. Gary Buddoo-Fletcher and other senior officers were also present, along with other representatives of the Ministry of National Security.
