Investigators assigned to the Narcotics Division have commenced investigations following the seizure of cocaine worth more than 28 million dollars at the Sangster International Airport on Thursday, May 09.
Information is that about 5:00 p.m., a Dutch man was accosted by Narcotics operatives while he was checking in to board a flight destined for Brussels, Belgium. After a preliminary interview, the police became suspicious, searched his luggage, and found 6.1 kilograms of cocaine concealed in false compartments.
He was subsequently arrested on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act. The drugs seized have an estimated street value of JMD 28,311,513.00 or €168,258.00.
The man’s name has been withheld pending further investigations.
