FAITH, SERVICE AND RENEWAL: COMMISSIONER’S ANNUAL DEVOTION INSPIRES THE JAMAICA CONSTABULARY FORCE

On Monday, January 5, 2025, in a moment of reflection and unity, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force gathered for the Commissioner’s Annual Devotion on the lawns of the Commissioner’s Office in Kingston under the theme ‘Strengthening Our People, Strengthening Our Bonds, Strengthening Jamaica’.

This event, which has become a meaningful tradition on the Force’s calendar, reinforced the importance of faith, moral grounding, and emotional resilience in policing. The event was graced by the presence of several officials, including Commissioner of Police Dr. Kevin Blake, Mayor of Kingston and St Andrew, Andrew Swaby, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security of Jamaica Alison Stone Roof, along with several members of the JCF’s high command.

The devotion served as a time to reflect on the notable successes of the JCF over the past year. Among the highlights were continued reductions in major crimes in several divisions, strengthened community policing initiatives, and improved collaboration with stakeholders at the local and national levels. The Commissioner commended the members for their professionalism, bravery, and dedication, particularly those who worked tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks, recover illegal firearms, and restore a sense of safety in vulnerable communities.

In his address to the congregation, he lauded the members for what he described as “tangible progress in our transformational agenda, improvements in our operational effectiveness, and strengthened partnerships in communities and stakeholders.” He went on to remind the members that “transformation must be sustained, progress must be deepened, and success must be shared right across Jamaica, not just within the Jamaica Constabulary Force.”

The Commissioner charged each employee to invest in their own development, wellness, discipline, and character. Pulling from the scripture Jeremiah 29:7, Dr. Blake also reinforced that “every professional interaction, every lawful arrest, every act of restraint, every moment of compassion contributes to the wider national social fabric.” He went on to say that “strengthening Jamaica means policing with integrity, fairness, and courage.” In closing, the Commissioner expressed his sincere thanks to the members for their sacrifice in the service to Jamaica. He reiterated to the attendees that with God and each other as partners in service, the JCF will continue to build a safer, more peaceful, and more confident Jamaica.

Adding a powerful and uplifting dimension to the devotion was the presence of gospel recording artist Jermaine Edwards. Through song and brief exhortation, Edwards delivered messages of hope, perseverance, and faith, which resonated deeply with those in attendance. His soulful performances created moments of quiet reflection and emotional release, reminding officers that even in the most demanding roles, there is room for healing and renewal.

As the devotion concluded, there was a shared sense of encouragement and renewed purpose among participants. The Commissioner’s Annual Devotion once again proved to be more than a ceremonial event; it was a reaffirmation of the JCF’s values, a celebration of its accomplishments, and a reminder that faith, service, and unity remain central to the mission of policing Jamaica.

With spirits lifted and resolve strengthened, members of the JCF returned to duty recommitted to excellence, guided by both professional pride and a deeper sense of calling.
