Fingerprint Bureau Drops Knowledge at JCF Transformation 2.0- Mobay

The technological advancements within the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Fingerprint Bureau, goes deeper than simply convicting perpetrators. Just as importantly, it’s about expediting the exoneration of innocent citizens.
The Montego Bay leg of the Force’s Transformations Expo 2.0 featured an eye-catching display booth for JCF’s technology branch.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Germain Anglin pointed out that both individuals and organizations stand to benefit from the much-improved criminal background checks being employed by the Force. He explained: “If you’re looking to employ a person at, say, a basic school, you will want to ensure that this person is not a child predator or anyone who has been convicted of any such crime.
You also have many people now conducting background checks on workers they’d want to employ within their homes. This technology expedites the process so that business owners can have ease of mind, and law-abiding citizens can rest easy knowing they are exonerated, never hindered, by this process, and that it is done in a timely manner.”
Employment reasons aside, there are more dangerous scenarios wherein an innocent party can be vindicated by this technology.

If an individual is picked up and we say we are of the view that they committed a crime, it is a right to explain to the person (that their print is required) and that they give their print willfully,” Anglin explained further. “If (they refuse) then the new act can give authority under certain offenses like murder. What that does is it exonerates innocent individuals, because we have to complete that process before placing them before the court. And once a person is cleared, the print that they gave us must be destroyed within six months,” he finished.

The second biennial JCF Transformations Expo is being held at the Montego Bay Community College and Kingston’s National Arena. Following on from its first staging in 2023, this year’s Expo spotlights the MENSA of the organisation, as well as the global quality management systems and, new and emerging policing technologies being embraced by the Constabulary.

The four-day event comprises interactive booth displays, and live performances and demonstrations. The Expo concludes on Sunday, June 22.
