FIREARM AND AMMUNITION SEIZED IN MOUNT SALEM, ST JAMES – MAN IN CUSTODY
A team of officers assigned to the St. James Police Division arrested one man following the seizure of a firearm and five rounds of ammunition during an operation in Coconut Palm, Mount Salem, in the parish on Saturday, August 9.
Reports from the Mount Salem Police are that at about 1:30 p.m., lawmen were in the area when they saw the man walking along the roadway with a bag, whose actions aroused their suspicion. He was accosted, searched, and the bag he was carrying was also searched. During the search of the bag, a Smith and Wesson FNS40 pistol with a magazine containing five 9mm rounds of ammunition was seen inside the bag.
He was subsequently taken into custody; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigation.
