A St. Thomas man has been charged following the shooting death of 59-year-old truck driver Winston Wheeler of Days Mountain, Oracabessa, St. Mary at his home on Saturday, March 30.
Charged with Murder, Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorised Possession of Ammunition, Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Burglary and Conspiracy to Robbery with Aggravation is 20-year-old labourer Ojay Bignall otherwise called ‘OJ or Hell Gate’ of Blacksmith Lane in Seaforth, St. Thomas.
Reports from the Port Maria Police are that about 12:45 a.m., Wheeler was at home with a family member when Bignall kicked open their kitchen door and opened gunfire at Wheeler. He received several gunshot wounds before running outside where he collapsed. The injured man was assisted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following an intensive investigation Bignall was apprehended in St. Thomas and transported to St. Mary where the charges were laid on Tuesday, April 23 after he was positively identified on an Identification Parade.
He is scheduled to appear in the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, April 25.
