Sleuths assigned to the Kingston Eastern Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division have charged an Irish national with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, Attempting to Export Cocaine, and Conspiracy to Export Cocaine following an incident at the Norman Manley International Airport on Thursday, March 27.

Charged is 41-year-old Martin McConolgue, a construction worker of Truman Close, Nottingham, in England.

Reports from the Narcotics Police are that at about 6:30 p.m., McConolgue attempted to board a departing flight destined for London Gatwick when he was intercepted by the police. During which he was interviewed, and based on inconsistencies in his answers, the police requested a search of his luggage. The police used a pointed object to pierce the base of both suitcases, and a white powdery substance resembling cocaine was seen. Four irregular parcels, each wrapped in blue carbon paper, were removed from both suitcases. The estimated weight is 7.26kg or 16 lbs.

McConolgue was arrested and taken into custody, where he was formally charged with the aforementioned offences.
