JCF NATIONAL SPORTS-A CELEBRATION OF UNITY AND SPORTSMANSHIP
The Jamaica Constabulary Force hosted its annual National Sports Day at the GC Foster College in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, 2025. The event that was on a pause for a few years was reinstated in 2024 and has been a hit among sworn and unsworn members.
This sporting event brings together men and women from various divisions and non-geographic formations to compete in the spirit of true sportsmanship. The event saw participants representing their respective areas, fostering a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition.
The two-day event, which marks the finals of the area sports, brought together areas one to eight as well as members of the Police Youth Club (PYC) from each area. An occasion fully supported by the rank and file saw the Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake and his deputies, namely Mr Warren Clarke, Mr Clifford Blake and Mrs Karina Powell-Hood, out in full support of the men and women of the Constabulary.
The support was greater this year as the sporting committee hosted the likes of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr the Honourable Horace Chang, Opposition Leader Mr Mark Golding, Senator Peter Bunting, among other members of parliament. Throughout the day members of the Constabulary were pleased to have several past commissioners, namely, Mr Owen Ellington, Dr Karl Williams and Mr George Quallo.
The event, well-supported by various sponsors and members of the force, who came to support their colleagues, family and friends, was also supported by over thirty-five past men and women of the JCF who flew in from Florida to be a part of the excitement. These over 35 men and women came to witness the showcasing of the athlete within the JCF. The presence of these veterans added a unique dimension to the celebrations, highlighting the enduring connections within the JCF community.
The JCF’s commitment in organising such events is in line with its efforts to promote wellness and team building among its members, as noted by the JCF’s Constabulary Communication Unit (CCN), the event was designed to foster a sense of camaraderie and esprit de corps among participants. It demonstrates the JCF’s dedication to the holistic development of its members, recognising that sports and physical activity play a crucial role in maintaining their overall well-being.
The day ended with Area 6 in first place, the same position they held at the 2024 games. Area 8 placed second and Area 5 third. The overall champion went to Area 6; hence, it is no coincidence the champion boy, Constable Nevaughn McPherson, and Constable Jamelia Dale are members of the Area 6 team. These constables participated in every race and dominated. Yes! The Area 6 team, Champions of 2024, are the champions again.
Meanwhile, it is important to note that the impact of sports extends beyond the field, as it provides an opportunity for members of the JCF to bond and develop lasting relationships. By providing opportunities for members to engage in physical activity and socialise with their colleagues, the JCF aims to create a more positive and supportive work environment.
