KINGSTON MAN CHARGED AFTER ATTACKING POLICE OFFICER

A Kingston man is now in police custody and facing several charges following an incident where a police officer was attacked at his home in Vineyard Town, Kingston 3, on Wednesday, April 16.

The accused man has been identified as 24-year-old Raheim Rowe of First Avenue, Kingston 3.

Reports from Elleston Road Police are that at about 4:10 p.m., the policeman was cleaning his vehicle at his home when Rowe allegedly jumped over his fence and entered the property. The officer and a relative cautioned Rowe about entering the yard without permission and instructed him to leave.

Shortly after, Rowe allegedly returned to the premises, joined by a group of his associates. A confrontation ensued in which Rowe attempted to pull a firearm from his waistband. A physical altercation took place between Rowe and the policeman, during which Rowe was shot and injured in his leg.

Rowe’s associates fled the scene, and the police were summoned. Rowe was taken to hospital for treatment and was subsequently charged with Shooting with Intent, Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Discharging a firearm in any Place, Unauthorised Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorised Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Injury.

His court date is being finalised.
