MAJOR OPERATIONS REAP SUCCESS IN ST. ANN
A person of interest in an ongoing murder investigation was arrested, and a sub-machine gun along with dozens of rounds of ammunition was seized during two operations in St. Ann on Friday, September 26.
The person of interest was one of six persons held during the first operation in Bamboo, St. Ann at about 7:00 a.m. A man who was wanted on an outstanding civil court warrant was also arrested, along with another man who was arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act. Three women were also taken into custody for processing.
Senior Superintendent of Police Carlos Russell and Superintendent of Police Dwight Brown led the operation in collaboration with members of the Jamaica Defence Force. Several specialised units of the Force also gave support, including the Area 2 Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Criminal Investigation Branch, the St. Ann Divisional Intelligence Unit and Proactive Investigation Unit, along with personnel from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB).
Later in the day, at about 2:00 p.m., the Specialized Operations Branch collaborated with their St. Ann colleagues for a second operation in Green Acres, Mammee Bay, where three premises were searched. A Kel-Tec sub-machine gun, which was fitted with a magazine containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition, was found at the rear of one of the premises. One Glock magazine with twelve 9mm rounds of ammunition and eleven 5.56 rounds of ammunition were also seized. Two persons were arrested in connection with the find. However, their identities are being withheld.
According to SSP Russell, the St. Ann Police remain committed to fostering a safe environment for all. “We will intensify our efforts to combat crime and violence in the parish while serving and protecting the community,” he said.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force continues to encourage members of the public to report suspicious activities and share information by calling the police 119 number, the National Intelligence Bureau tip line at 811 or Crime Stop at 311.
