December 09, 2021- Members of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard seized more than 1900 pounds of compressed ganja on a vessel in the Salt Pond area of St. Catherine on Wednesday, December 08.
Reports are that the team was on an anti-narcotics operation when a vessel was seen which contained 1940 pounds of the illicit drug. The ganja has an estimated street value of JMD 7.76 million dollars.
Head of the St. Catherine South Division, Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, stated that members of the security forces will continue their efforts to dismantle the Guns-for-Drugs trade.
”The security forces will continue with the operational activities targeting persons involved in the drugs for guns trade as well as the places used to carry out this illicit trade. We seek the cooperation of the general public so as to reduce the opportunities for individuals to participate in these illegal activities”, said Superintendent Nicholson.
