POLICE INVESTIGATE SWALLOWFIELD SHOOTING, MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING SEIZURE OF PROHIBITED WEAPON AND AMMUNITION

The police have launched an investigation into the shooting of a woman during a police operation in Providence Pen Lane, Swallowfield, Kingston 6, on Wednesday, May 14. A 33-year-old man was also taken into custody following the seizure of a prohibited weapon and ammunition during the incident.

Reports are that at about 11:00 p.m., police teams were on operation in the area when a group of men was seen. On approach of the police, the men fled, one of whom fell and dropped a firearm; he was apprehended, and the weapon – a Core rifle and 10 cartridges – was seized.

While the man was being arrested, the police came under attack from residents in the area, who discharged firearms and other projectiles at the officers. However, the police were able to take the suspect into custody safely.

The police later received reports that a woman from the area went to seek medical attention for a gunshot wound she sustained; a full investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this shooting.

Meanwhile, the police are reminding the public to not impede their operations, as interference can pose a risk to residents and police personnel on duty. Residents are urged to cooperate with the police.
