The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) continues its transformative journey under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dr. Kevin Blake, with a significant focus on personnel development. In a move that underscores the “People” pillar of the JCF’s “People, Quality, and Technology” (PQT) campaign, 107 Police Corporals were promoted to the rank of Sergeant on Friday, April 11.

This achievement follows the successful completion of an intensive six-week Sergeant Development Course at the National Police College of Jamaica. The course, which commenced on February 17, provided these Police men and women from various police divisions with enhanced managerial skills essential for effective leadership within the Force.

Commissioner Blake’s emphasis on “People” recognizes the fundamental role of compassionate and effective service in policing. The investment in training and development programs, such as the Sergeant Development Course, demonstrates his commitment to empowering personnel, which is vital for maintaining public trust and ensuring the safety of all communities.

These promotions serve as a significant morale booster within the JCF. Recognising its members’ hard work and dedication through career advancement fosters increased job satisfaction and motivation. This positive reinforcement encourages a culture of respect and professionalism throughout the Force, driving officers to strive for excellence in their duties.

Since assuming the role of Commissioner in February 2024, Dr. Blake has prioritised the promotion of qualified individuals within the JCF. The recent advancement of these 107 corporals to sergeants highlights his commitment to human resource development as a cornerstone of effective policing. By strategically prioritising its people alongside quality service delivery and technological advancement, the JCF is enhancing its operational effectiveness and strengthening its crucial relationship with the communities it serves.
