Forty-year-old police officer Damane Campbell of Industry district, Summerton, St. James, has been charged with Murder and Conspiracy to Murder following the shooting death of a vendor along Market Street, Falmouth, Trelawny, on Wednesday, July 08, 2020.
Dead is 56-year-old Wayne Reid of Lucea in Hanover.
Campbell’s co-accused, 41-year-old police officer Tenisha Gardner of Stone Brook Vista, Falmouth Trelawny, was previously charged on Tuesday, July 27.
Reports from the Falmouth Police are that Reid and Gardner were involved in a physical altercation citizens assisted to quell. Later that afternoon, Reid was called to a perimeter fence close to his stall, where it is alleged that he was shot by Campbell who escaped in a waiting motor car. Reid was assisted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was launched into the murder, and a file was prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for ruling. Campbell turned himself in to the police with his attorney after it was recommended that both accused be charged.
His court date is being finalised.
