Six men are in custody following a major ganja bust east of Morant Point, St. Thomas on Friday, June 11.
Ganja weighing approximately 914 pounds and a 27 foot fibreglass fishing boat were seized.
Reports are that about 4:00 a.m., the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guards were on patrol in the area when they saw the vessel with the men aboard. Upon seeing the Coast Guards, the men started throwing several bags and buckets overboard. The vessel was intercepted, the bags and buckets retrieved – they contained compressed ganja.
The drug seized has an estimated street value of JMD 3,656,000.00
The men are to be interviewed before formal charges are laid.
The Narcotics Police are conducting investigations.
