St. James Man Charged with Breaches Under the Firearms Act

A team of officers assigned to the Trelawny Police Division have charged 26-year-old Brandon Haughton of Maroon Town, St. James with possession of prohibited weapon and assault at common law in relation to an incident that occurred in York Pasture, Deeside Trelawny on Sunday, September 8.

Reports are that about 4:00 p.m., a man was standing outside his home when he saw Haughton and another man on a motorcycle. An argument developed between Haughton and the man, after which Haughton left but returned with another man. Haughton and his accomplice then attacked the man— during the altercation, Haughton pulled a firearm and pointed it at the man. However, the man escaped unhurt.

A report was made to the police and during the investigation, Haughton was arrested. He was charged on Thursday, September 12 after he was interviewed in the presence of his attorney.

Haughton’s court date has not been finalised and his accomplice is currently being sought by the police.
