THREE ARRESTED AND CHARGED FOR LOTTERY SCAMMING IN PORTLAND

An intelligence-led operation in the Mount Pleasant district of Portland on Monday, February 16, has resulted in three men, all with addresses in St Andrew and St Thomas, being charged with Possession of Identity Information.

Charged are: 23-year-old Mario Barnes, 21-year-old Duvhaun Perry and 20-year-old Omar Cummings.

According to reports, a police team armed with a search warrant conducted a raid at a multi-storey house in the community. As the officers approached, the occupants allegedly threw cell phones and other electronic devices into bushes. The premises were searched, and ten individuals were found inside.

A further search of the property uncovered several cellular phones and four motor vehicles. The vehicles were also searched in the presence of the individuals found at the location.

The men were escorted to the Port Antonio Police Station, where they were formally charged after voluntarily granting investigators access to the devices. The devices were reportedly found to contain multiple files with personal information belonging to individuals residing outside of Jamaica.

A court date for the men to answer to the charges is currently being arranged.
