Three firearms were seized during an early-morning operation in Salt Spring, St. James on Tuesday, February 9.
The seizure comes as the Specialized Operations Branch continues its partnership with the Jamaica Defence Force and local divisions as they seek to dismantle gangs; seize guns and arrest gunmen. This morning’s operation began about 5:00 a.m. in an area that investigators believe to be an enclave of the G-City gang.
During the operation, one M-16 assault rifles, two handguns and 60 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized.
One man, who has been identified as a top-tier member of the G-City gang, was fatally shot during the operation. He is Tevin Stewart, otherwise called ‘Pete’. The Independent Commission of Investigations has been informed.
The investigation continues. The police are encouraging persons to share information about guns, gangs and wanted men by calling their local Police or Crime Stop at 311.
