TRELAWNY MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER
Detectives assigned to the Trelawny Policing Division have charged a man with Murder in relation to the death of 31-year-old Aidan Barnett, otherwise known as ‘Aids’, of Campbell’s Land, Albert Town, in the parish on Thursday, April 17.
Charged is 30-year-old Antwang Whyte, otherwise known as ‘Akeem’, also of Campbell’s Land.
Reports from the Falmouth Police are that at about 8:30 p.m., Barnett entered a business establishment, talked with the server, and then turned to leave. It’s alleged that Whyte, who was sitting inside, got up with a knife in his hands that he used to slash Barnett’s throat as he exited the building. The injured man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Whyte was reportedly mobbed by residents and beaten before he was rescued by lawmen and taken to hospital, where he was treated and then taken into custody. He was formally charged on Friday, April 18, based on eyewitness statements.
A court date is being finalised.
