TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING MAJOR FIREARM AND AMMUNITION SEIZURE
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a massive firearm and ammunition seizure, following a coordinated operation in the St. Andrew South Division. The arrests come as law enforcement intensifies efforts to dismantle gun smuggling networks supplying Jamaica’s criminal underworld.
The breakthrough follows a multi-agency operation on Monday, January 17, at Newport West, Port Bustamante in Kingston, where authorities intercepted a container shipped from the United States. A thorough search uncovered 66 firearms, including 16 high-powered rifles, along with over 4,700 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), operating under the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC), spearheaded investigations into the illicit shipment. Their swift and coordinated efforts led to the arrest of two suspects on Wednesday, February 19.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), along with the Jamaica Customs Agency, continues to ramp up efforts to disrupt firearm trafficking networks and bolster national security. This latest seizure marks a significant milestone in the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms smuggling.
Investigations continue.
