UPDATE INTO INVESTIGATION OF ALLEGED RAPE AT WESTMORELAND SHELTER

The police wish to inform the public that no case of rape has been reported from any shelter in Westmoreland. This update follows an investigation into social media claims of an alleged case of rape at a shelter in the parish.

Investigators have confirmed that they have received reports of a physical confrontation between a female visitor and a male at a shelter, which was quelled by the occupants. Following the incident, both parties left the premises, and the police were notified. An investigation was immediately launched, and statements were recorded.

The police are appealing to members of the public to refrain from sharing unconfirmed information as such actions can cause unnecessary panic, distress, and mistrust within the community. This may also hinder the important work being carried out to assist individuals in need.

To ensure continued safety and security, police presence has been increased at several shelters, and we remain vigilant whilst protecting all residents and staff at these facilities.

The public is encouraged to rely only on official updates from the police and other authorised agencies and to report any suspicious activity or verified information through official channels.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is reassuring the public that we remain committed to transparency, community safety, and the protection of all citizens.
