VENDOR SLAPPED WITH SEVERAL CHARGES FOLLOWING ROBBERY

Thirty-four-year-old Renardo Coghiel, otherwise called ‘Blacks,’ a vendor of Bridge Street, Port Antonio, Portland, has been slapped with several charges following a robbery at a gaming lounge in the parish on Tuesday, February 10.

 The charges laid against Coghiel are: Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Robbery with Aggravation, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon with Intent to Injure, Carrying a Prohibited Weapon in a Public Place without Authorisation, Assault at Common Law and Receiving Stolen Property.

 Reports from Port Antonio Police are that at about 4:30 a.m., the complainants were at a gaming lounge when three masked men entered, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The man reportedly pointed the firearm at the complainants and demanded cash. The complainants, in fear for their lives, handed over $50,000 JMD in cash, a black Samsung A05 cellular phone valued at $20,000 JMD, and an iPhone 13 Pro valued at $120,000 JMD. The three masked men then made their escape in the area.

 A report was made to the police, and following further investigation, the black Samsung Galaxy cellular phone was tracked to Coghiel’s premises, where it was found on his bed. He was taken into custody and was subsequently charged after an interview. His court date is being finalised.
