Montego Bay has seen a dramatic decrease in homicides since the start of 2025, with a single murder on record for months like February and May; a strong indication of St James’ new trajectory as expressed by Assistant Commissioner of Police [ACP], Glenford Miller.
The JCF Transformations Expo (which made history with its first staging in Montego Bay) is an opportunity for residents to witness the technology, strategies and dedication that led to the reduction in Area One crime.
“At the [JCF Transformations Expo 2.0], people will get to see the work that has gone into the technology we employ, and the tactics we rely on… they will understand that this reduction in crime is not a fluke, but the result of deliberate policing strategy,” Miller shared emphatically. “Area One has seen 60 murders since the start of 2025, compared to 168 in 2024. That’s 108 less homicides, a 64.3% drop in murders.”
Area One refers to not one but four parishes which fall under his jurisdiction, namely Westmoreland, Hanover, St James and Trelawny. The most significant improvements have been noted in one particular parish. “Most notable is the parish of St James which has seen one murder in February and one in May,” he said.
When the Jamaica Constabulary Force [JCF] checked the data, they found that this was a record low for the parish in a quarter century, a huge milestone that benefited citizens of St James and Jamaica as a whole.
Miller is especially excited that the community will have a chance to interact with officers on the ground, and learn more about the different ways in which the JCF works tirelessly to make Jamaica safe. He said, “Citizens of Jamaica and persons traversing Jamaica, can rest assured that by virtue of our Commissioner of Police, Dr Kevin Blake, and his men and women on the ground, we are working relentlessly to ensure your safety in Jamaica.”
Miller states that the morale of the members of the JCF is ‘higher than high-ranking members of the organization have seen in years.’
The JCF Transformations Expo is being held at the Montego Bay Community College and Kingston’s National Arena. Dedicated to showcasing the technologies employed by the JCF, the Expo was developed for the purpose of fostering trust between the Jamaican people and the officers dedicated to fighting crime on their behalf. The 4-day event will comprise interactive booth displays, and live performances and demonstrations. The Expo concludes on Sunday, June 22.
