The Police continue to heighten operational activities to rid the country of illegal guns and ammunition. This effort has yielded the seizure of four illegal firearms, including two MAC-11 submachine guns and over 37 rounds of ammunition, across the island in the last 24 hours. Eight persons have been arrested and charged in connection with the seizures. 

 

In the first incident an operation was carried out by detectives within the Kingston West Division resulting in the seizure of one Browning pistol and one Beretta pistol along with 17 rounds of ammunition.

 

Charged are twenty-year-old Devonte Watson and 18-year-old Javanty Lucas otherwise ‘Shava’, both of Kingston addresses.

 

In St. Andrew South, five men were arrested and charged following the seizure of one Heckle and Kotch 9mm pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition. A police team on patrol accosted the men on Bowens Road. The area was searched and the firearm and ammunition were seized.

 

Charged are:

  1. Ricardo Taylor otherwise called ‘Broomy Boy’
  2. Teven Campbell
  3. Alphanso O’Connor
  4. Mario Simpson
  5. Kemar Hardware, all of Kingston addresses

 

Another Mac- 11 submachine gun and six rounds of ammunition were seized by Police in the St. Catherine South Division. The Police carried out operations on Manley Lane in the Division. Thirty-one-year-old Jevaughn Johnson of Bark Pen St. Catherine was arrested and charged in connection with the find. 

 

Meanwhile, the Police are renewing their appeal for members of the public to report illegal weapons by calling Crime Stop at 311 or King Fish at 811 or the nearest police station. 

 

Their court dates are being finalised.
