December 16, 2021– “Your JCF is transforming”, Major General Antony Anderson said during his address at the ceremonial opening of the new Buff Bay Police station earlier today. The Portland Division is one of the latest to benefit from the Constabulary’s valiant effort to transform. Previously the police station was located in a private housing complex and was not appropriately retrofitted for its purpose.
This new fit-for-purpose station is part of the Ministry of National Security’s ‘Project R.O.C’, which aims to rebuild, renovate and retrofit police stations island-wide. The construction of the Buff Bay Police Station was funded and managed by the National Housing Trust (NHT). The NHT spent under 126 million dollars to build the new location, which features a ramp for the disabled, a server room, interview rooms, barrack rooms and other modern amenities.
“We just went through Stage I of our ISO 9001certification with a grade A,” Commissioner Anderson said during his address. He also explained that the high ratings achieved by the organization immediately moved the Constabulary to stage II of the certification. The Constabulary passing the first ISO 9001 audit with grade A indicates that the robust transformation efforts are reaping positive results.
The new station is expected to improve service delivery to our customers in and around the parish. In stating his approval for the construction- Station Commander- Detective Inspector Horace Harris said, “I wish all stations in Jamaica could be like this.”
These sentiments were also echoed by Constable Denton Williams who explained that he, along with other staff members, are happy to serve customers from a more comfortable and conducive environment.
Constable Denton, who worked at the old Buff Bay Station, also elaborated that the new structure is a stark reality from the old station.
Minister of National Security Honourable Dr. Horace Chang and the Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Honourable Daryl Vaz were among the dignitaries who attended.
Although the newly built Buff Bay Police is now ceremonially open, members of the public are being asked to make their reports at the old location until early next week.
