January 30, 2021– A 59-year-old St. James businessman, of a Westgate Hills address, was arrested during an intelligence driven operation by the Narcotics Police in connection with a multi-million-dollar drug seizure on Friday, January 29.
About 7:15p.m., Narcotics operatives, following strong investigative leads, targeted the driver of a Hyundai motor car along the Flanker main road in the parish. The driver was signalled to stop and he complied. A search of the vehicle was conducted and 11 packages of compressed cocaine, weighing approximately 11 kilograms, were found. The vehicle and the packages were subsequently seized, and the driver taken into custody. However, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
The cocaine has estimated street value of over JMD 80 million.
