JCA AND FNID INTERCEPT FIREARMS SHIPMENT AT KINGSTON PORT

In another significant blow to organised crime, the JCF intensified its crackdown on illegal firearms and narcotics with a major seizure on Wednesday, May 14. A joint operation between the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) and the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) resulted in the seizure of 16 guns and over 250 rounds of ammunition at a warehouse on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston.

Reports are that at about 10:27 a.m., the JCA was conducting a routine security screening when anomalies were detected with a shipment. The FNID was alerted, and during a thorough examination, the following items were discovered concealed in the shipment:

  •          16 pistols
  •          259 rounds of ammunition
  •          25 magazines

Director of FNID, Acting Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrae Rowe, said this seizure is another reminder of the continued work being done to secure the Jamaican borders against illegal items. “Every illegal firearm removed from circulation represents lives that are saved and puts us a step closer towards a safer Jamaica,” said Acting SSP Rowe. “We will continue to pursue individuals involved in the trafficking of firearms and narcotics to further enhance the safety and security of citizens,” he added.

Meanwhile, the police are urging anyone with information that can assist with the investigation to contact FNID at 876-923-6184 or 876-564-3340, Crime Stop at 311, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, the police 119 emergency numbers or the nearest police station.
